around Richmond, Virginia, since the time of his birth. He has been
hunting and collecting Confederate antiques for more than thirty years and
has been for the last ten years a full time dealer. His love of all
things Confederate prompted him to found
www.oldsouthantiques.com, which has grown into the largest all
Confederate antiques dealership in the world.
He has written numerous articles about the
history, authentication, care, and conservation of Confederate antiques
for North South Trader’s Civil War, Civil War Courier, The Civil War News
and other War Between the States periodicals and is the author of the
definitive work on Confederate collectibles, the widely acclaimed
Collecting the Confederacy, Artifacts and Antiques from the War Between
the States. He also does speaking engagements relating to the joys
and the pitfalls of collecting Confederate memorabilia. Shannon is a
current or past member of the Civil War Preservation Trust, the Gettysburg
Battlefield Preservation Association, the Captain William Latane Camp Sons
of Confederate Veterans, the Museum of the Confederacy, the North
American Vexillogical Association, the National Rifle Association, the
