The Confederate Cavalry Sword pictured here was manufactured by Boyle, Gamble & MacFee of Richmond, Virginia.  In 1861, Edwin Boyle, Thomas Gamble and Edward MacFee formed a partnership for the purpose of manufacturing edged weapons for sale to the Confederate States Government.  The company manufactured Sabre bayonets, Cavalry swords, Artillery swords, Bowie knives, Bayonet adapters and Cavalry officer’s swords like the one shown here.

This sword has the distinct down-turned guard and flat blade that is identical to the Cavalry officer’s swords with Boyle, Gamble & MacFee Richmond, Va. cast into the underside of the guard, leaving no doubt that it is a Boyle, Gamble & MacFee product. The Boyle, Gamble & MacFee Cavalry officer’s sword is the rarest of the company’s swords.

The Boyle, Gamble & MacFee Cavalry officer’s sword shown below is accompanied by its original leather scabbard.  The scabbard is in like new condition with the exception of a repair to the leather above the drag where the scabbard was folded.  The sword is also in excellent condition.  The leather grip wrap is complete with the exception of the small chip shown in the photographs.  The iron wire wrap is complete and tight.  The guard remains tight also and the flat, unfullered, blade is still bright.  This is the best example of this pattern that I have ever seen in museums or private collections.

This is the exact sword shown on page 211 of Collecting the Confederacy.
