OS-1149

This single breasted Confederate Officer’s vest is made of gray wool, lined with tan cotton twill.  It originally had nine buttons but the top button is missing.  It has eight remaining Virginia state seal buttons including Mitchell & Tyler/Richmond, Scovill, Extra Quality and Horstmann backmarks.  The reverse is made of black, glazed cotton twill.  The pocket linings are completely intact and are made of the same cotton twill as the vest’s reverse.  The half belt adjuster on the reverse is broken.  The tan cotton twill inner lining is in excellent condition with the exception of the wear at the collar and hem resulting from much use.

The style and cut is the standard three pocket Confederate vest; an upper watch pocket in the left breast and two at the waist.  The waist pockets have scalloped flaps with whipped interior eyelets, the pocket buttons are missing.  The pocket linings are completely intact and are made of the same cotton twill as the vest’s reverse.

The attached photos show interior and exterior of the front and back.  As you can see the vest is in excellent condition.  The vest has already been examined by America’s leading authority on original Confederate uniforms and comes with his documentation.

This is the exact vest shown on page 258 of Collecting the Confederacy.
