OS-1530

Every soldier North and South needed a knife when they marched off to war, and in the South, it was fashionable, if not practical to carry a large fighting knife, the bigger the better judging from war era photographs.

This beautiful bowie is a whopping nineteen inches long from pommel to point.  It has an oval, iron cross-guard and an iron ferule at the base of the grip.  The bulbous hand grip is secured by having the blade’s tang peened over a brass washer.  It remains tight.  The blade is in mint new condition, it has not been cleaned; it still shows all the coarse finishing marks.  The blade has a single edge with a squared spine.  The slight drop point is a true edge for about an inch and a half.

The knife is sheathed in its original scabbard; and a remarkable scabbard it is.  The scabbard is made of wood and then covered in leather.  The belt loop is cracked all the way through in the center which is shown in the photos, but is not loose at all.  The artisan who made the scabbard went so far at to sew a leather throat to the top of the sheath.

This is the best of the best for condition, style and aesthetic beauty.
