The yellow/gold sash shown here is pure Confederate. Normally, one cannot distinguish between Federal and Confederate sashes, as the Federal sash could be copied so closely in the South that there is virtually no difference. This is one of the very few that I have ever seen that were obviously of Southern manufacture. It is made of silk and appears to have been made by joining two silk curtain tie-backs and sewing a single row of fringe to each end. It has a wonderful look, and as you can see from comparing the officer’s frock with it on, and with it off, it adds quite a bit of pizzazz. |
