OS-1605

The 84mm hat plate shown here bears the War era seal of South Carolina.  The Palmetto tree seal was first adopted in 1776.  The seal was designed to represent the victory of the South Carolinian’s on Sullivan’s Island over the British Navy.  Palmetto trees were used as works and ably absorbed the British shot; consequently, the Palmetto tree is the dominant symbol.  It is supported by a shield on either side.  Each shield bears a Latin motto: "Quis separabit?" ("Who Will Separate?") and “Animis Opibusque Parati", or "Prepared in Mind and Resources".

The plate retains its original brass-wire fasteners and nearly one hundred percent of its gilt.

     It is Flawless!
