This sword was manufactured at the Confederate States Armory in Kenansville, North Carolina.  The name implies that the armory was a Confederate government facility.  Despite its official sounding name, the armory was owned and operated by Louis Froelich.

The sword shown here is known as a Kenansville Second Model.  The sword and scabbard are marked with the Roman numeral II, assuring that the scabbard is original to the sword.  The sword’s leather grip wrap and twisted wire wrap are in excellent, original condition.  The twisted wire wrap is unusual, but is definitely original.  The throat washer is a replacement.  The sword’s guard has two wonderful casting flaws, both of which are shown in detail.  The grip and guard remain tight.

The sword is sheathed in its original scabbard.  The scabbard has several dents in the lower third of the scabbard, no doubt from having doors closed on it.  One dent has a small hairline crack and there are two small holes in the scabbard near the bottom as a result of the tin being too thin when it was made.  The scabbard is solid, original and strong.  I make a habit of pointing out any flaws in what I sell; this is a much nicer sword than it sounds and would be considered very good.
